No 4X for the 2012 World Cup?

*UPDATE* The UCI released this statement concerning the inclusion of 4X in 2012.

Press release: Four-cross at the 2012 UCI Mountain bike World Championships 22.09.2011

Following the publication of the 2012 Mountain Bike calendar, the UCI confirms that Four-cross events will form part of the programme of the 2012 UCI Mountain Bike and Trials World Championships to be held in Leogang, Austria.

However, due to the high costs of constructing tracks and their impact on the environment, the UCI has decided to withdraw this speciality from the programme of events at UCI Mountain Bike World Cups from next season.

UCI Communication Services

According to the latest calencer for the 2012 World Cup seaon, there is a whole catagory of races excluded; 4X.

Whether or not this is a primary draft published before it should have been or that 4X is infact defunct for the 2012 season, there has not been an official statement released by the UCI confirming either way.

However, according to an article on new title sporsor, Rocky Roads, "The rumors about the 4X issue which have been circling around for quite some time are finally confirmed", yet this confirmation is later attributed to the published calender rather than an official statement.

MBUK on twitter (@mbukmagazine) have posted that a "UCI Press Release due tomorrow regarding 4X World Cups.", so hopefully that will shed some light on the whole situation.

More to come on this as we get it...
